Mrs. Walen, Literature
Graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and holds certification in English for grades 6â12. Began her teaching career in 2020 with Seminole County Public Schools, where she spent five years inspiring students through 7th and 8th grade Language Arts, as well as electives like Creative Writing, Journalism, Law and Order, and Yearbook. She is excited to bring her passion for literacy and communication to the SMMCS community, where she joined the staff in August 2025.
Mrs. Slebodnik, Language Arts
Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University. Certified in Elementary Education K-6, Middle Grades English 5-9, Spanish 6-12. Began teaching in 1982. Taught at St. Mary Magdalen since 1989.
Mrs. Hage, Mathematics
Graduated from UCF with a BA in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Math, Education, and Business. Taught 9 years in Osceola county, including 8 years of high school Algebra and Geometry. Tutored for Upward Bound program (targeting disadvantaged college-bound high school students) with Valencia College for 5 years. Also served as an external reviewer for Florida Virtual School to review Middle School Math curriculum.
Ms. Thomas, Mathematics
Graduated from the University of Central Florida earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Certified in Elementary Education K-6, Mathematics Grades 5-9, Reading Endorsement K-12, and ESOL Endorsement K-6. Graduate of St. Margaret Mary and Bishop Moore Catholic High School. Began teaching career here in 2017 and blessed to rejoin the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School faculty again!
Mrs. Nassis, Social studies
Graduated from the University of Oklahoma earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with certification in Middle School Social Studies and Language Arts Education. Florida certified in Elementary Education K-6 and Middle Grades Social Studies and English in 5-9. Began teaching in 2007 and joined the St. Mary Magdalen teacher family in 2015.
Ms. French, religion
Serves as Campus Minister and Middle School Religion Teacher at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic School. She has over twelve years of experience forming children and teens in both academics and faith. Served in parish faith formation, youth ministry, and catechetical roles, and currently leads retreats, liturgies, and classroom faith formation for grades Kâ8. Passionate about helping young people encounter Christ and grow into faithful leaders.
MS. Plumley, Science
Earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Florida and a Master of Education in Elementary Education with an emphasis on technology from the University of Florida. Teaching at St. Mary Magdalen since the Fall of 2012. Co-lead for the SMM STREAM Club for middle school students and has an immense passion for teaching science.
